How come everyone in Westeros knows that Jon Snow is Ned Stark’s bastard by just looking at him, but they fail to see that Joffrey is a little inbred shit?
right? I am reading book 1 and this is completely bothering me right now. I think it is probably more likely that people know, but are more afraid of lannisters than starks.
It’s because Ned never hid the fact that Jon was a bastard. He didn’t shy away from what he did when he came home from the war with Jon, and as a result the news spread through his bannermen and Jon became kind of a celebrity. He became sort of like Harry Potter in a sense.
Joffrey, however, is the inbred result of identical twins. I mean, yeah, if Jaime had bright, flaming red hair and Joffrey did too then it would be mighty suspicious, but as far as everyone is concerned he just happens to share more genetics with his mother than Robert.
That and calling him an inbred abomination who isn’t really a prince is treason. Calling Jon Snow a bastard is just pointing out why he has the last name Snow.
